Let’s set the record straight…

When most people think of the recording studio, they picture their favorite artist in a big fancy commercial studio. There’s a huge console, lots of outboard gear, and tons of buttons! However, what if I told you that a majority of recording these days takes place at home? See, modern technology has revolutionized the way we make records. Gone are the days of booking time at an expensive commercial studio. Sure they have their place. But, many artists want to make their music from the comfort of their own home. There’s no time limit, the recording is more accessible, and there’s less pressure. The truth is that most people think you have to get a degree from a college or university to learn music production. Or they try the DIY (do it yourself) approach and never actually learn because the amount of wrong information online is overwhelming. As an audio engineer myself, I can’t name one time where someone has asked me what degree I have. Most people go through four years of college only to get a few hours of studio time. How do I know this? Because I use to work for a famous recording studio. They took in interns from well-known colleges throughout the United States. These interns held four-year degrees but, when it came down to it, they had little to no hands-on knowledge of how to work in a studio. Most of them couldn’t even wrap a mic cable properly. There’s an obvious problem there. By taking this course, you will gain practical knowledge of how to set up and operate your home studio. Best of all, these technical skills will translate over to commercial studios too.
